Billing Update - What’s Changing on April 1, 2026?
Electricity bills for most Yukon homes (based on 1,000 kWh) will increase by about $80 per month starting April 1. This is due to:
The YG Winter Electrical Affordability Rebate ending. About $34/month.
The YG Affordability Rate Relief Rebate ending. About $27/month.
Yukon Energy's electricity rate going up starting April 1. This applies to all Yukon ratepayers. About $19/month.
Our rate increase is needed to fund critical system upgrades that will improve reliability and resiliency for the future.
Key initiatives include:
completing the Whitehorse grid-scale battery energy storage system;
renewing water licences for the Whitehorse, Mayo and Aishihik hydro facilities;
building the first phase of the Whitehorse Power Centres;
replacing aging diesel units in Whitehorse; and
upgrading Dawson City’s local power system with new poles and wires, and new backup diesel capacity.
We understand that rising electricity bills are just one of many costs that households are facing as prices for goods and services continue to increase. If you’d like to discuss payment plan options, please contact us at billing@yec.yk.ca or (867) 993-5565.
