Corporate Contributions

Purpose

Yukon Energy’s philosophy is to help make a difference in the communities where we live and work, and we take our responsibility seriously to be an active and good corporate citizen. As a public utility we annually give a portion of our net earnings back to Yukoners through donations and sponsorship to non-profit groups.

Yukon Energy’s Donations and Sponsorship Program is a significant source of assistance for many Yukon groups and is clearly improving the quality of community life. The program is also good business. It is part of the ongoing process of being open, accessible and recognized by Yukon ratepayers.

Principles

Yukon Energy is a vital, forward-moving company involved with positive economic growth in the territory and that is environmentally and socially responsible.

Yukon Energy intends to ensure that the people of the Yukon benefit from the public ownership of the company.

Yukon Energy recognizes that the development of healthy communities requires an active non-profit sector, and it will provide financial support to encourage the worthwhile activities of non-profit organizations.

Support will be limited to those groups whose programs or services benefit the community at large, rather than individuals.

Appropriate recognition should be given in each instance where Yukon Energy provides assistance, as a way of promoting community awareness of the role of Yukon Energy, our mandate and objectives.

Category Allocations

Generally, Yukon Energy seeks to support organizations/programs that provide broad community benefit, demonstrate a high level of community support, target youth or have a youth focus, and contribute a positive impact within the community. All recipients of a Yukon Energy donation or sponsorship must commit to acknowledging the Corporation in promotional material, which may include banners, brochures, posters, web and other advertising. Yukon Energy will give priority to and may seek out groups or organizations that offer naming rights or official sponsor designation. Sole sponsorships or joint sponsorship with only two or three other compatible organizations is the preferred position of the corporation. Yukon Energy shall be provided the opportunity to have a presence at events of which Yukon Energy is a major sponsor, by setting up an information booth, handing out promotional items, etc. Furthermore, those opportunities that allow the initiative to be replicated into many of the communities served by the Corporation will receive favourable consideration.

Yukon Energy’s Donations & Sponsorship Program provides financial support to registered non-profit groups in the following areas:
• Arts, culture, tourism
• Sports and recreation
• Health, social services and education

Note: the Board will consider multi-year applications, excluding core funding, subject to the availability of annual funding, but such projects will have to demonstrate strong community support.
