Fish-Cam

The fishladder is closed for the 2009 summer season and the salmon cam has been de-activated. Both the ladder and the web cam will be operating again in June 2010.

We would like to gratefully acknowledge the Yukon River Panel, which provided the funding that allowed us to install a new web cam in 2009. Unlike the old system, this new web cam is accessible to both Mac and PC users (the old system could only be used by PC operators).

The total salmon numbers for 2009 are as follows: 828 salmon passed through the ladder, with 720 of those being male (359 hatchery and 361 wild) and 108 of those being female (28 hatchery and 80 wild). This compared to a total number of chinook salmon in 2008 of 399.

What to Watch For in the Cameras

In the summer months, Yukon Energy has underwater cameras situated at the base of the fishladder. The cameras provide a rare opportunity to see a variety of species of Yukon fish, including arctic grayling, whitefish, lake trout, longnose sucker and, starting in early August, chinook salmon.

Below is a short video taken inside the fishladder.
