The Power is in All Our Hands

There are a number of things all of us can do to try to reduce our energy consumption. Our Yukon grid energy consumption chart indicates the amount of electricity being consumed (charts are updated every hour). The light blue colour on the charts indicates the amount of hydro power we have available, the dark blue shows how much hydro is being consumed, and the orange (if any is showing) indicates how much diesel we are using to meet the demand. There are also charts that show electrical consumption over the last 24 hours, the last week, and the last 12 months.

As we all know, diesel is expensive and not environmentally-friendly, so at any time you see that we are running our diesel generators, we would encourage all customers (residential, small business, government and industrial) to try to keep discretionary energy use to a minimum.

Note: from time to time, you will notice when looking at the energy consumption charts that we are burning some diesel, even though it appears we have hydro available to us. This entry on our blog explains why this happens.
