The Aishihik third turbine is a seven megawatt hydro generator that has been added to our existing Aishihik hydro plant, which until recently was limited to two 15 megawatt hydro turbines. The new generator is allowing us to use the water we have at Aishihik more efficiently. It will displace diesel that might otherwise be needed during peak times of the day.
The Aishihik third turbine project is expected to save Yukon Energy $1.2 million or more per year in diesel costs and will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 3,800 tonnes annually.
The federal government has committed $5 million in Eco-Trust funding to Yukon Energy for the Aishihik third turbine project.
