Renewable Energy

With the completion of our transmission lines from Mayo to Dawson City in 2003 and from Carmacks to Pelly Crossing in 2008, Yukon Energy has greatly reduced the amount of diesel generation on our system. Most of our electricity is produced using hydro, with a small amount using wind.

However in the winter months, we must sometimes supplement with diesel to help meet the demand for electricity. This is not desireable, since diesel is more costly to our customers and is not good for the environment.

We are working hard to find new sources of clean energy so that we can continue to minimize the amount of diesel we use.
